Tim Feland was born November 30, 1956, to Art and Marie Feland in Bismarck, ND. He was raised on a ranch in Almont, ND. At a young age he started roping and doctoring livestock with his dad at the ranch. Art’s excellent horsemanship was passed onto Tim and his skill set turned him into a successful competitor in the team roping and calf roping events. His career started in Little Britches rodeos as well as junior and high school rodeos. He moved into the amateur and professional arenas.

Tim was North Dakota State High School Champion Calf Roper in 1973 and 1975, leading to a full-ride college scholarship to Dawson College in Glendive, MT. In college, he competed in the North Dakota Rodeo Association and the Roughrider Rodeos.

He was North Dakota Rodeo Association Calf Roping Champion 7 times (1977, ‘83, ‘84, ‘87, ‘88, ‘89 and ‘90); Standing Rock Rodeo Association Calf Roping Champion in 1988 and ‘89; North Dakota Rodeo Association All Around Cowboy in 1989 and ‘90; Northern Plains Rodeo Association Calf Roping Champion in 1989, ‘93 and ‘94; Rough Rider Rodeo Association Champion Calf Roper in 1986 and ’87.

He won the All Around Cowboy Buckle at the Home On The Range Champions Ride in 1984.

Tim also won the prestigious All-Around Cowboy title by placing 3rd in the Calf Roping and 1st in the team roping, heeling behind Bruce Birkland.

Tim was PRCA Badlands Circuit All Around Rookie of the Year in 1985, PRCA Badlands Circuit Calf Roping Finals Rodeo Champion in 1985, and Senior Pro World Champion Calf Roper in 2006.

From 1990-96 Tim travelled with “Smokin”Joe Lucas (NFR Qualifier and Canadian Calf Roping Champion), with the pair winning or placing at some of the PRCA’s most prestigious rodeos in northern Canada including Williams Lake, BC, Ponoka, AB, Brooks, AB, Camrose AB, Strathmore, AB Regina, SK Meadow Lake, SK Swift Current, SK and, in the U.S., Phoenix, AZ, San Antonio, TX, and Kissimmee, FL.

From 1980-86, Tim raised and trained rodeo and ranch horses, boarded horses, held roping schools and team and calf roping events. He dedicated much of his life to raising and training good horses. He shared his knowledge of the sport and got others involved in the calf roping and team roping events.

In 1993, Tim entertained at the El Patio Guest Ranch in Kumamoto, Japan. The El Patio Guest Ranch held daily rodeo shows where Tim calf roped, and team roped. After performing in the rodeo shows, Tim gave roping lessons to the guests at the ranch. Tim represented cowboys, teaching his Western way of life, as well as ranch and rodeo skills.

When Tim moved to Arizona in the late 90’s, he started an off-road tire business. He bought, refurbished, and sold tires for large road construction and mining equipment. He also bought and sold horse properties in the area.
Tim continues to live in Arizona and is still involved in the sport of rodeo. Together with Randy Fitchner, he runs a roping camp and gives roping lessons to winter visitors at their acreage.
