He was raised on the family farm in Voltaire, ND. In his younger years, Jeff loved wrestling and football, he was a State Champion in both sports. His true passion, however, was the sport of rodeo.
Jeff started his rodeo career at a young age, competing in local youth rodeos. In high school, Jeff won the state title in Bull Riding three times along with the Team Roping and All Around state titles. He competed three out of four years at Nationals and won the National High School Finals Rodeo in 1983. In college, Jeff competed at the CNFR twice and was a team member for the 1990 College National Championship Team for Montana State University. After graduating from Montana State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, Jeff entered amaetur and PRCA rodeos for eight years. During this time, he won the NDRA year-end title in bull riding three times.
Jeff married Jona Susag on September 17, 1994. They have five children: Kylie, Keenan, Kambree, Kaulder and Kirra. Jeff took a short break from the rodeo scene to raise his children, but re-entered soon after when they began competing. Growing up, Jeff’s biggest support system was his family. His parents were always encouraging him to pursue his rodeo dreams. Today, Jeff and his wife, Jona, are the biggest supporters of their five children and their aspirations.
Jeff currently owns and operates Pipestem Feeders feedlot in Carrington, ND. His western way of life resembles that of a true cowboy. He enjoys tending to his livestock, ranch rodeoing, and spending quality time with his family. Jeff has always believed that family support, hard work, preparation and perseverance are the keys to success.
