
Dorvan Solberg

Born May 20, 1934 in Williston, Dorvan Solberg is an American Quarter Horse Association Director Emeritus and North Dakota Cutting Horse Association Director Emeritus. He was one of the individuals who signed on the original Articles of Incorporation of the North Dakota Quarter Horse Association on January 13, 1969. Upon incorporation he was also listed as one of the initial directors.
Solberg grew up in Ray, ND, and graduated from Ray High School. He attended North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton. He has been a rancher all his life, and is a member of the Ray Lutheran Church Council and Williams County Farmers Union. For 20 years, he was President of the Board of Directors for Mountrail-Williams Electric Cooperative and also served as Secretary-Treasurer. From 1999-2008 he served as a member of the North Dakota House of Representatives, representing District 2.
Solberg has successfully competed in the cutting pen for 50 years and, in 2016, stood in the top 15 for the NCHA Senior World Tour. He is known for always taking time to help and encourage his fellow cutters. For over 35 years he has served as a judge for the American Cutting Horse Association and American Paint Horse Association events. He has judged throughout the USA (including Hawaii), Canada and Europe, and judged major events such as the American Quarter Horse Youth Association World Championship Show and the American Quarter Horse Association Select World Championship Show.
As an AQHA Director, some of the positions and responsibilities that Solberg has assumed are: past chairman of the Hall of Fame Committee, member of the Public Policy Committee, and member of the Ranching Heritage Committee. He is currently a member of the Nominations and Credentials Committee. Solberg also served AQHA in Washington, D.C., lobbying Congress on issues of importance to the AQHA.
Solberg and his wife Eileen have four daughters. They split their time between homes in Ray, ND and Rio Verde, AZ.
